we don't usually invite outsiders to this one. This is where some people secretly choose the young woman who is going to represent Jamaica for the next year (in Miss Universe etc)

Is that Laci to the far left? I think she's the prettiest. What are all the categories again?

I clicked on the link you provided and went to the go-jamaica site. Why is it that one of the contestants was born in Queens, NY, went to High School in Queens, NY, attends college in Long Island, NY and was able to enter the Ms. Jamaica contest? I am incensed! Outraged!
That is not fair. To me, the contest should be limited to Jamaica nationals--meaning you have to be living in Jamaica and if you were not born there, at least one of your parents has to be Jamaican. Granted that contestant did not win but if I was currently living in Jamaica I would not want her representing me! There, I've said my piece.

In any case we would want the best person possible to win the competion and realisticaly its not every day we get a Lisa Hanna to represent us.
But I guess its up to the sponsors. unless the sponsers are confident that a girl from St. Elizabeth can win then they are not going to sponsor her.
No that Lisa Hanna looks like a Jamaican either which brings up the question: what does a jamaica girl look like?

Beautiful girls! Jamaica is certainly blessed with them.

to me, you don't have to look a certain way to be Jamaican--just be born there and be able to have citizenship ie. not be born while your French National parents are on vacation in Ocho Rios.
I wasn't mad at Christelle Thomas--Miss Diet Ting (the not-so-black chick) bec she was born in Kingston, however, Tiffanie Glendenning was not born anywhere near Jamaica, unless Queens, NY now has the type of relationship with Jamaica Turks & Caicos used to. I'm sure she's a wonderful person but I don't understand how she was able to enter the contest.

Sponsors G, Sponsors! Probably she was born on Jamaica Avenue in new york or maybe spent her tender years growing up in Jamaica. Its not a big deal to most people unless like you said in a case where she look very foriegn.
Though if you check out Miss 2006 Jamaica Festival Queen, again and All three. I doubt any of them were sponsored for Miss Jamaica. JCDC's site is not updated regularly.
