No Trespassing

So there is this stretch of rough black sand beach in front of the Airport in Kingston. The beach is very rocky so there is nothing you can do there but stand around and collect pebbles. Sometimes I would go there and look at the ocean whenever I needed picked someone up from the airport. There is even a lighthouse. The NMIA seemed to have acquired funding for some new signs. Recently I noticed that a company installed swipe cards on the doors to bathrooms in a office building - there has got to be so sort of building code against that but you can't expect anything good to come from companies nowadays - its all about the money. Oppressors trying to force people underground. This my friends is the future: "Jamaica: No trespassing".

TC Givans commented: Yeah, we parked in front of that sign a couple months ago and picked pebbles with the kids:) In fact, there seemed to be a cycling group that had made it their meeting point that morning too. ... read more

Love Clean KSA website Launched

Launched a website to allow citizens to report bad street lights and public problems etc in the Kingston and St. Andrew area. The site is called Love Clean KSA - I think its a good look. This type of initiative should be implemented across the island - not only as a means of giving people who buy expensive smartphones something productive to do but also to help bring to the fore front public problems which may not be apparent to all the politicians that do not live in the constituencies that they represent.

Anyway I submitted my a fault with a sidewalk in my area and it was surprisingly approved 7 days later. I appluade this first step and I am now looking forward to seeing how long it would actually take for the problem to be fixed before someone falls into it and breaks their leg.

We should all strive to be more than ourselves and stop and look at the cracks in the road.

Gods Child commented: This is brilliant. We have a service in NYC called 311 where you can call and report stuff. Sometimes it's a little invasive though, and they want your number and name for something so simple like an open fire hydrant wasting water or a tree branch covering a sign. If I had the guts I would trim the branch myself. ... read 5 more

The new distraction; German Jamaican Flag Burning Ad

written by owen, published 2013-Feb-25, comment

This is a clear case of the media wasting time on superfluous issues. While ignoring the prominent issues currently facing the people of Jamaica.

Here is the controversial ad in question;

Now anybody watching that ad would find it funny, unless they have no sense of humor. Or they have just taken part in the NDX. Infact I find that ad less offensive that the stereotypical Volkswagen Game Day 2013 Commercial - because those cars are too expensive for Jamaicans and we don't talk like that, but the Tourist board is glad to knee-jerk anything it can find to make an extra buck instead of promoting things that are actually Jamaican and invest in Jamaica itself - rather than waiting in the bushes.

The song featured in the Advertisement is by Barrington Levy;
"Dem dress up inna jacket & dem dress up inna tie,
Come a court house want to tell peer lies, Dem a murderer, Tell dem already wi have to tell dem again Tell dem already wi have to tell dem again"
