Bangkok governor issues urgent call for sandbags
BANGKOK (AP) -- The Thai capital needs 1.2 million sandbags to construct a 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) wall within 48 hours to keep encroaching floods from swamping into the city, Bangkok's governor said Monday night.
"Every second counts," said Sukhumbhand Paribatra, whose call for city residents not to let down their guard posed a contrast to government statements in the morning that the flood threat to Bangkok appeared to be easing.
Sukhumbhand said barriers had to be built up at several canals carrying overflow water from Pathum Thani province just north of Bangkok, where soldiers joined volunteers in trying to save the country's oldest industrial estate from being inundated.
Relentless monsoon rains that began in late July have affected two-thirds of the country, drowning agricultural land, swamping hundreds of factories and swallowing low-lying villages along the way. The nationwide death toll has risen rose to 307, mostly from drowning.

Good info on hurricane season and Antigua
Few things create as much emotion and nervous tension during the summer months as the massive storms we call hurricanes. The word originated from either the ancient Mayan storm god, "Hurakan", or from the Carib word "huracn" meaning god of evil. Either way this word has been scaring people for possibly thousands of years. In recent times science has given us a better understanding of how they form and most importantly how to forecast their strength and track as they come across from Africa. "Hurricane Season" is between June and November with the middle of August to the Middle of September being most active.

The Inhumanity of Nature
We are not new to tsunamis. In fact, I think it’s fair to say that since December 26, 2004, we have a pretty good idea of how deadly tsunamis can be. In fact, I think it is quite fair to say that tsunamis are quite probably the single deadliest earth-born force of nature that mankind has ever faced. Why? Because tsunamis are made from stuff that covers 70% of our planet:
Water.

Blue planet is the amazing documentary on our planet, Earth. I say amazing because some scenes really ARE amazing. It goes into how we’re rapidly changing the planet, most of which is for the worst. After watching this, I was reminded just how amazing our planet really is. (not taking anything away from Saturn of course)
